How can I get started homeschooling? Where can I get help?
Sometimes the first step is the most challenging! One of the greatest resources for C.H.I.E.F. families, is other C.H.I.E.F. families! Post your question to the email list, or attend a gathering – we’re here to help! Also visit our resources page for additional ideas and resources.
Do I have to license my homeschool in Kansas?
No. Kansas state law only requires that your “non-accredited private school” be registered one time with the Kansas State Department of Education. Read more here about these requirements…
How to Join C.H.I.E.F.
Applications to join the C.H.I.E.F. organization are accepted at year round. We recommend applying by August 15th proceeding the school year to be included in the directory and to participate in any fall sports. Membership in C.H.I.E.F. is $15 a year per family.
If you are interested in joining, please fill out and return an application:
Does our family qualify?
The C.H.I.E.F. Constitution & Statement of Beliefs lists the criteria for membership. This is required for all members, volunteers, teachers, leaders, coaches, etc.
Our Membership Application includes our statement of faith as well as a letter for you to provide to your church leadership. You will notice that there is a line to include the signature of a church leader. This is currently a “preferred” section and the C.H.I.E.F. board is hopeful the community will, as a whole, involve their church leaders to verify attendance and agreement to our Statement of Faith (attached). Our goal is to make our selective membership process more secure and add a level of Christian accountability to our community.
You will also have to affirm that your child is homeschooled as define by CHIEF: A “homeschool” is a non-accredited private school in which parents assume primary responsibility for curriculum selection, curriculum implementation, performance assessment, and generation/archiving of records. A student shall not be considered homeschooled if he or she receives more than 50% of their schooling through any public or private school.
If you have any questions about membership, please email the Board of Directors.
When does C.H.I.E.F. meet?
The organization typically has two formal membership meetings each year – one in the spring and another in the summer, just before the traditional school year begins. There are many other opportunities for fellowship throughout the year. Be sure to check out the calendar of events for more information!
